„Baie geluk“ sagt man auf Afrikaans, wenn man „Alles Gute/Viel Glück“ wünscht. Das wünsche ich euch auch, und dass eure Wünsche in Erfüllung gehen!
Leider kamen aus Südafrika zum Jahresende nicht so gute Nachrichten.
Zunächst freuten wir uns alle, denn Beauty war tragend, vermutlich von Footy (der im November verstorbene Schwarzfußkater)! Das süße Geheimnis kam heraus, da sie im Zuge der FeLV-Infektion von Footy ebenfalls untersucht wurde. Der Tierarzt stellte bei der Ultraschalluntersuchung 3 Föten fest.
In der Nacht von 29. auf 30.11. hat Beauty zwei Welpen zur Welt gebracht. Da die Geburt wohl schwer und schmerzhaft war, und eins der Kitten tot geboren wurde, hat sich Beauty leider auch um das überlebende nicht gekümmert. Gerade bei erstgebärenden Katzen kann so etwas vorkommen, weil sie noch nie eine Geburt erlebt haben und so mit den ganzen „Umständen“ nicht umzugehen wissen.
Weil sie das Kleine nicht gesäugt hat, musste es in menschliche Obhut. Damit es aber eine größere Chance hat, wurde eine Amme gesucht und tatsächlich gefunden! Eine Hauskatze nahm sich des kleinen Schwarzfüßchens an!
Leider hat das winzige Kätzchen trotzdem nicht überlebt, und es ist am selben Tag wie Nelson Mandela gestorben.
Weil der kleine Bub nicht „anonym“ über die Regenbogenbrücke gehen sollte, hat er den Namen „Madiba“ bekommen.

„Little Madiba, R.I.P.
In 24 hours the world lost 2 fighters: a great human being, Nelson Mandela („Madiba“) but also our tiny little black-footed cat kitten. The surrogate (domestic) mothercat did an excellent job and the first days the weight increased but sadly the last 2 days he got it bad and stopped drinking. Beauty gave birth to this kitten, a male, and to a second still born. She sadly didn’t take care of the kitten the first day, as she was still in labour. That’s why we decided to give it a go with the domestic mothercat, a much better option than bottlefeeding. The bond between two got closer, and also when the little one wasn’t feeling well the mothercat licked him and gave him comfort. This afternoon he passed away, but we didn’t want our firstborn to die without a name, so we thought Madiba was the perfect name for our little fighter, to honour him and also the icon Madiba. May they both rest in peace and find the road to freedom….forever!!!!!!“

Ein großer Mann ist gestorben! Er hat die Menschen in Südafrika geeint, auch nach seiner Präsidentschaft war er immer ein Vorbild für das friedliche Zusammenleben von Schwarz und Weiß. Kann er auch nach seinem Tode dieser so tief zerrissenen Nation Halt geben?
